2022_09 September

it is not going to be effortless to restart having a painting routine. Drained is the correct word. But when one is drained, I guess one needs to “get some humidity”, in the form of museums, books, and most of all, painting. Getting a brush in one’s hand, pigment on that brush and putting said pigment on paper. That is the only real way to unblock. I will do it. I finished last night a dog I had sketched and left on my desk the night before leaving for Italy two months ago. Dogs have dominated these past two months. The difficult dog of my guests and the many, too many, dogs of Monti, which barked unchecked for hours at any time of the day and of the night and which truly almost drove me insane. Weirdly, I seem to have called this on me, since the last three pics I did in June and now are about dogs. Is there something to understand here?

21 years ago I was in Central Park, another park, trying to get a grip of the reality which until a few hours before had only been the subject of terror movies. I remember sitting on a bench staring ahead of me, numb, trying to get hold of my mother on my cell phone and a jogger passed by and I thought” if someone is jogging, it can not be that bad…”. But it was. It was incredibly bad. He was probably jogging to contain and deal with his fear.

A lot of negative drawing – This is not finished: I need to work more on contrast and integrate the black lines around the leaves, as they are they are too sharp. Graphite, done sitting on a bench as black-capped chickadees were eating next to me.
Final version. Rays of light are much needed these days…(in metaphorical sense of course – we have had enough sun this summer for 2 years).

shipwreck – cleaning the palette 23.09.2022 – acryl
watercolor and acryl, but I destroyed it and what came out of it is the one below, which I like way less than the original one (I almost do not like it at ALL…)…. agh!
I think I will go over that one as well and make it a bit less boring.
Night lights – I was trying to learn how Jean Paul Riopelle worked.
24.09.2022 – final version of the painting above. I redid it. It
is better than version 2, which was depressing, but I like version 1 the best. I will keep it in mind…
